And Now A Word From Our President…

The holidays are over! I hope all of you had a great time over Christmas and New Years. So, another year and as usual we are all busy people. If you are someone who makes New Year’s resolutions, I also hope that you are someone who sticks to them. Usually my resolution is lose weight and to spend more time with my friends and family. I usually fail or break even at losing weight but make up for it by spending time with my friends and family. This year I am not going to lose weight, but rather I am going to gain a bunch…Katie is going to be a big sister somewhere around July 26th! My due date just happens to be my husband, Mike’s birthday, so what a great present for him and our family! Good thing the president’s term is only one year, I am going to have my hands full come fall time when we start up again!

I was so happy to see a bunch of you come out with your families to the HYC’s Bowl For Kids fundraiser! The kids (and parents) seemed to have a great time and we even won a trophy as a result of our generous donation…Yay Kinettes! Maybe something to strive for again next year…(the fun and the awards).

Lastly, I’ll leave off with a few upcoming events and some quotes to ponder:

ASIP Course – Saturday, January 12th @ FCSS, 10:00 – 4:00 PM. Lunch will cost a small amount but the course is free.

“The Challenge” – Optional Info sessions are being held at 7 PM at the High School Library Sunday, January 13th or Monday, January 14th. The actual challenge days are being held at the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) Monday, January 21st and Tuesday, January 22nd from 8:00 – 4:30 PM.

Donation items for Ladies Night Out are to be handed into Sara by February 20th, and you can call or email her what items are ahead of time if you like.
Ladies Night Out is at the Community Hall on Saturday, March 1st

And Now A Word From Our Prez…

This past month, 7 of us went to the Fall Leadership Conference in Edmonton. For 4 of us it was our first time (“FLC Virgins” as a few of the others called us), and what a time it was!!! Leona inspired the group with a fantastic speech that called for each club to challenge their towns to volunteer more, to get more involved in their communities; and it was even better to hear her use our booming club as a prime example. A couple of hilarious highlights for me included:

  • Wearing our fabulous Mission to Mars astronaut costumes and walking into the wrong hall dressed in our costumes, only to find out that it was a wedding which included the mayor of Edmonton as a guest,
  • Seeing the pure joy on Marcella’s face when we walked in and she told us her team had won the Amazing Race challenge (and made sure to rub it in our faces),
  • Watching as Anna blushes and squirms at the mere mention of a boyfriend (what color are his velvet pants again??),
  • A few tequila shots with the girls (Who says Barb is shy? Liars.),
  • Some truly horrible karaoke songs sung by all of us
  • A lot of laughs and a great game of Ultimate PRS in the hotel after-party room, after which the other clubs gave Leona and Cindy heck for bringing us “FLC Virgins” into their room,
  • And lastly, the terror and imagination I have created for myself, knowing that someone else has my Mission to Mars helmet and I am going to have to pay for it in some manner or another to get it back….

Okay, so that was the comedy part of my Prez report…now here’s the inspirational:
This month we will be playing Ultimate PRS, next month I will come up with some equally goofy game for us to play. My hope is that these goofy games will build our bonds with each other, break down some barriers (or whatever makes us be so serious) and give us some new-found energy to help our community (and ourselves) grow the best way we can.

And Now A Word From Our Prez…

Well ladies, it is an honor to be president and I can only hope that I can lead our growing club to some great times over the course of the year! I have a few goals for us this year and thought that I would take the first president’s message to lay them out, so here it goes!

After attending the executive seminar earlier in the month I am fired up for entering our club and/or our club members in some of the Kin Awards. Although I don’t feel the outcome is all that important (but rather the effort that goes into trying), I want us to try for at least three awards. To get us started, I have just begun working on the Stettler Kinettes’ very own website and hope to enter it for the National Website Award. It is far from finished yet, but you can check it out at:

http://stettlerkinettes.blogspot.com/

To view the site just type in the address above. To alter the website you have to sign in. Username is sbamsey@telus.net and the password is stettler. In the near future I would love it if you could give me some input as to what you’d like to see on it, if you could pass along some pics, etc. Go on the National website, read about each of the awards and what is required, talk to Brenda Vegter and get started right away! You never know, we just might win!

Next, I would like to see us have a few more fun nights. If you are hosting one month, try to plan a game for each meeting, tell a few jokes, set up a fun activity – whatever, as long as it gets us laughing! I would love to go on a road trip as a club. Maybe we go to another club’s Ladies Night Out or meeting night, maybe we just head to Red Deer for a night on the town. Maybe we could even go bowling, swimming, try to cook something…it’s all up to you.

Last one…(and hopefully this will be the easiest goal of all)…is for us all to get to know each other better, for us to respect that we are all different but have come together for the same reasons, and that we all have a lot to gain from learning about our differences. Let’s have a great year, make great friends and serve the community’s greatest need by being the best role models and leaders we can be!
